This guide will provide you useful information to applying your vinyl graphics. You will also notice a few tips and tricks to make your installation quick and easy. There are two methods of installation, Wet and Dry. We recommends the Wet method since it allows positioning of the vinyl before adhesion takes effect.
Select a shady area away from direct sunlight to install your graphic. Prepare the surface. Clean application area with soap and water. Surface should be free of dust, dirt and grease.
It is also recommended that the car should not have been recently waxed in the past month (30 days). Windows should be free of wax and should not have been treated with RainX® or a similar window treatment.
The tools you will need:
Scissors
Xacto Knife or Single Edge Razor Blade
Clean Spray Bottle
Dish Washing Soap
Squeegee (An old Credit Card or a Body Filler Applicator will work)
Measuring Tape
Clean Towel
Hair Dryer set on low heat
(if you want to speed up drying time)
Next you will need to mix yourself an application solution. Fill a clean spray bottle with 28 - 32 oz. of water and add four drops of dish washing soap. Mix by shaking.
Spray the intended graphic area of vehicle liberally with application solution. You will need to repeat this throughout process.
Before removing transfer tape and vinyl decal from the release backing, use your squeegee to burnish the transfer tape on to the vinyl. This will allow the transfer tape to pick up any small parts of vinyl that may have separated from the transfer tape during shipping or shelf time.
Peel transfer tape back from release backing. Be sure all vinyl pieces are being transferred on to transfer tape.
Lay decal
down and carefully move into position. Once decal is in desired
position, use your squeegee to remove water and air bubbles from
between decal and application surface.
Allow time for adhesion to take place. The amount of time for this process will vary on ambient temperature and the amount of solution used in step 2. You can use a hair dryer set on low heat to speed up drying time.
Carefully pull back transfer tape. Make sure vinyl graphic is completely sticking to surface. Use your squeegee to remove any remaining water and air bubbles from under vinyl. If any water or air bubbles are still present, don't puncture vinyl! Natural heat and cold cycles will remove the last few bubbles in several days.
Large graphics and window banner decals require trimming for a professional custom fitted look. Use a knife to carefully trim edges.
For graphics that breach panel seams, cut vinyl through the center of seam and roll vinyl around the seam edge on both sides. This is best performed once this area has dried and without the use of the application solution.
